Press for Android gets biggest update so far
Right now, Press for Android is still a Google Reader app, but the team is committed to the app and will give it life beyond Reader's shutdown which is scheduled for July. As part of its commitment to the app, Press has been updated with its biggest set of new features since it was released. The update brings the app to version 1.2 and there is a lot to like here.
The top of the list is widgets. Widgets are the quintessential Android feature, and Press finally has them. There are two widgets available, one big and one small, and both are scrollable to give you easy access to your news. Once you're inside the app, you'll find easier ways to get around and perform actions. In addition to the horizontal swiping between articles that was added in the last update, you can now change that in the settings to allow you to swipe vertically to get between articles.
Readability has been added, as has mobilization when viewing an article in the in-app browser. For the mobilization, you can choose between Readability, Instapaper, and Google for the formatting. Lastly, there are now long-press actions on articles in the list view, which allow you to quickly star, share, mark all below as read, or mark all above as read.
Of course, there are the usual bug fixes and performance enhancements as well. If you want to try out Press, it's available in the Google Play Store.
