President receives special version of BlackBerry 8830 World Edition?
BlackBerry Cool is reporting that the President Barack Obama has received a new cellphone for use around the White House and while traveling. Obama's new device is a specially configured BlackBerry 8830 World Edition loaded with a special software program called SecureVoice. This security program was written by a company called Genesis Key and is designed to provide access to NSA Top Secret information that is in turn the highest grade of security classification. SecureVoice is apparently designed to run alongside the BlackBerry OS and ironically is supported by any 8830 or Curve 83xx so that others using SecureVoice can communicate with each other. Consumers, though, cannot purchase the precious software.
The President is known to be a true BlackBerry addict and after winning the election, he was told he would have to give up his 'Berry in order to keep conversations secure. Instead, a collaboration between RIM, the NSA, the White House Communications Agency and Genesis Key was able to devise a solution to keep a RIM manufactured device in Obama's hands.
