"Pre-orders" for the Huawei Ascend P6 hit 2 million
Earlier on Monday, we told you about the excitement building for Tuesday's introduction of the Huawei Ascend P6 in London. The device is said to be 6.18mm thin which would make it the thinnest smartphone in the world, at least for now. Last month, we told you about the Umeox X5 which purportedly will come to market with a 5.6mm thickness.
Meanwhile, Huawei's own website in China has been accepting non-binding reservations for the phone. Unlike a true pre-order, you are not actually putting up a credit card to reserve the handset. This number is merely a guide to give Huawei an idea about demand for the device and certainly includes some entries that were done for fun.
So far, the number of "pre-orders" for the Huawei Ascend P6 has tallied 2 million, which would sound more impressive if these were reserved with a credit card. There is no question that with the combination of the 6.1 inch Huawei Ascend Mate and the 6.2mm thin Huawei Ascend P6, the Chinese manufacturer has no problem pushing the envelope. What Huawei needs is a U.S. carrier willing to commit to its high end models and with the company's name stained with the black ink of possible espionage, it is unlikely that a stateside operator will be willing to subsidize Huawei's more enticing phones.Back in April, Huawei VP Eric Xu said that the company is no longer interested in the U.S. market.
