Portfolio downsizing? Meh, Samsung just filed trademark applications for Galaxy J3, J5, J7 and E3

Samsung already released a Galaxy J, and a rumored Galaxy J1 is on the way. Despite promises to simplify its product line last year, after the Galaxy Alpha Samsung quickly spat out three phones in a new A-series, and two in the even fresher E-series.

Not only there will be a third phone in the E-series, but the J-series will be expanded with three new phones we haven't heard about until now, too. This info is revealed thanks to a Samsung trademark application for the J3, J5, J7 and E3 monikers. If history is any indication, those trademark applications usually quickly translate into real gear afterwards.

Thus, in the span of just a few short months, Samsung will have the Galaxy J1 to J7, A3 to A7, and E3 to E7 - a veritable smorgasbord of ten new phones, which will be added to the upcoming Galaxy S6 flagship, and its eventual Edge version. We wouldn't exactly call this downsizing the portfolio, but Samsung apparently wants to hedge its bets with a representative in every market niche and cranny this year as well.
