PopCap's Plants vs. Zombies breaks record & hails as the top-grossing app launch ever
Zombies currently rule the charts over at the App Store as more than 300,000 units of PopCap's award winning game Plants vs. Zombies have been sold in the first nine days. With that in the books, it has managed to set a new record for App Store launches as the $2.99 app has been able to conjure up more than $1 million. PopCap is doing considerably well when you look at how their flagship Bejeweled 2 app has become the first paid app to reach 3 million units on the App Store – PopCap now boasts 3 games that have reached number one on the App Store; a feat in itself when you look at the more than 150,000 apps available out there. Plants vs. Zombies was originally launched on the PC and Mac in May of 2009 and was garnered universally with critical acclaim – 95 percent of iPhone users have mustered up a five out of five stars rating for it in the App Store. If there's one thing to be learned by PopCap's success, it has to be that there is a lot of money surrounding the world of mobile applications.
