Pantech Element tablet now available for pre-order at AT&T
AT&T now has the Pantech Element tablet up for pre-order. The 16GB device has an 8 inch display that Pantech says is "waterproof for life" although we're not sure that taking a shower with it is a good idea (especially if it's plugged in!). In fact, the product is not designed for total submersion in liquid. The tablet will cost you $299.99 with a signed two-year contract for LTE service and without a pact, the price is $449.99. The Pantech Element is expected to start shipping on January 22nd.
There is some customization on top of Android 3.2, and a dual-core 1.5GHz processor powers the tablet. A pair of cameras can be found on the device with a 5MP shooter on back that captures video at 1080p while a 2MP one on front can be used for 720p video chats. The tablet also offers "Piezo Motor" haptic feedback. To make sure that water doesn't get into the device, all of the ports have covers that close to seal them from liquids.
While AT&T is accepting pre-orders for the Pantech Element, there is no demo unit available yet at the stores, although we should be able to get a look at it during the CES next week. And we just might bring a glass of water with us.
