PSA: do not buy Cuphead game from the App Store
Cuphead is an indie game, which became extremely popular this year, due to having an awesome mix of challenging difficulty, amazing art style, and a super-quality soundtrack. The game quickly drew YouTube letsplayers and gamers that are nostalgic for the quality platformers from the past and the resulting vortex of popularity and hype made it explode into the mainstream.
It's easy to assume that it would eventually make the jump to mobile, given the game's nature and the fact that phone hardware is pretty powerful nowadays. But rest assured, that a mobile Cuphead is still not available on neither the App Store nor the Play Store, nor has there been an official word on whether it would happen at all from its developer.
The reason we are posting that reminder is because there is currently a Cuphead game on the iOS App Store, available for $4.99. It looks pretty legit, too, with the developer bearing the same name as the game studio that made Cuphead. There's also a bogus website, studiomdhrgames.com, which assures you that the game is coming to iOS as soon as you visit it. That is not true and the website of the actual developer is studiomdhr.com.
So, what happens if you get this $5 bogus Cuphead game? Well, reports say that there is an actual, working game when you install the app — it seems that whoever made this just repackaged another piece of software. It's just not Cuphead. If you did get scammed, head over to “reportaproblem.apple.com” and ask for a refund ASAP. We are pretty sure this scam won't last for long on the App Store.
