Oppo agrees to three year partnership with FC Barcelona

To the impressionable, seeing a commercial with a star footballer using a particular handset could go a long way in helping a smartphone buyer decide which model to buy. That is probably why Oppo has teamed up with the FC Barcelona squad for three years. The Oppo logo will start appearing at Camp Nou stadium in Barcelona, and Oppo devices should soon start appearing on television commercials featuring the team.

Oppo CEO Tony Chen calls the deal "An important step in our global marketing strategy," and says that FC Barcelona was chosen because "they represent the art of football." Oppo currently offers its handsets in 20 countries in areas such as China, Australia, Mexico, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Middle East and Africa. The manufacturer also expects to begin a global expansion.

Oppo's newest handsets are the Oppo R7 and Oppo R7 Plus, both of which were unveiled last month with a loaded feature set. The R7 Plus includes a fingerprint scanner while both models offer VOOC rapid charging. This feature allows you to charge your phone from 0% to 75% in just 30 minutes.

Will Oppo be able to use this exposure to sell more handsets? If the deal is renewed after the three years expires, we'll have our answer.

Thanks for the tip!
