OnePlus ditches the invite system, the OnePlus 3 will be available invite-free from launch day
Earlier today, OnePlus spilled the beans and revealed when it's next phone - the OnePlus 3 - will get unveiled. That'd be June 14, at 12:30 PM ET, with the device itself becoming available later that day without an invite.
Wait a minute... Did we actually say invite-free?
We did! Carl Pei himself revealed to the OnePlus forum community that the invite system is being ditched for good. The OnePlus 3 will be the first one to get launched without invites, and so will be any other future OnePlus smartphones. Now that's a pretty sweet news for all potential buyers, isn't it?
The upcoming OnePlus flagship will become available from OnePlus' website, OnePlus.net, at 3:00 PM Eastern Time on June 14, just a bit after it becomes officially-official. We have a hunch that it will be available globally from day one, but don't quote us on this!
"With the OnePlus 3, we’re officially saying goodbye to invites. It’s a big step for us as a company, our fans, and fellow tech enthusiasts. After sending out millions of invites over the past two years, it’s hard to not think back to the early days and how far we’ve come. We’re proud to have reached a point where we feel confident in making our new device available without invites from day one," said Carl Pei, the co-founder of OnePlus.
What's also interesting is that those lucky enough to score a free Loop VR headset will be able to order the device straight from OnePlus' virtual reality shopping center, which is touted as being "the world's first". Oh, and the potential "flagship killer" itself will be unveiled with the help of the oh-so-trendy virtual reality.
