OnePlus confirms fingerprint scanner for the OnePlus 2
Yesterday, we showed you exclusive photos of the front and back of the OnePlus 2. On the picture showing the rear of the phone, what appears to be a fingerprint scanner was seen under the flash. Today, OnePlus took to social media to tease a fingerprint scanner for the upcoming device. The new OnePlus 2 will be unveiled during via a VR event to be held on July 27th starting at 10pm EDT. OnePlus is dipping into its wallet to pay for the cardboard VR viewers that are being sent out to those requesting one.
The OnePlus 2 will feature a 5.5-inch to 5.7-inch screen. While we don't know whether the resolution will be FHD (1080 x 1920) or QHD (1440 x 2560), we do know that the phone will be powered by the Snapdragon 810 SoC. This includes an octa-core CPU and the Adreno 430 GPU. OnePlus will be using the 2.1 version of the chipset, but this is the version that is still overheating on the Sony Xperia Z3+. The OnePlus 2 will also have the Type-C USB port. This allows users to plug in the cable with with either side of the plug up.
OnePlus says that it will initially use the controversial invitation system for the OnePlus 2, at least at first. OnePlus is using the invitations to balance supply and demand. It did say that there will be more invitations handed out, so hopefully we won't see the shortages that marred the launch of the OnePlus One last year.
