Official firmware upgrade released for BlackBerry Bold and Storm 9500
Finally, after weeks of unofficial leaks, we actually have an official firmware upgrade for a BlackBerry. Actually, the official release is for two RIM devices, the Bold and the Storm 9500. The Bold's new OS build is 4.6.0.247 while the Storm 9500 will be running OS version 4.7.0.113. Now, these are official releases so there is no need for warnings about bricking your phone and losing your warranty. The only thing we want to point out is that the Storm upgrade is for the Vodafone version of tie first touchscreen 'Berry. Those using the Verizon 9530 model will have to wait for a separate release. Users of either unit who have already downloaded the new OS versions are reporting that both phones seem to be working fine. Some Bold users have lost mapping functions. If you have the Verizon 9530 version of the Storm, a leaked upgrade two nights ago was met with less than happy response from users who felt that it was a step backward for the handset. The release of the official versions could indicate that Big Red will be offering an official firmware upgrade soon.
