Number of Opera Mini users up with 157% year-to-year
Opera Mini might not be the first browser that comes to mind in terms of accurate page rendering, but talking about speed and traffic savings it is in league of its own, compressing pages and data up to 90% on average. This is among the reasons that have lead to the rapid increase of the Java-based application users. The numbers are impressive. In March 2009 alone, over 23 million people were reported to be using the browser - an increase of over 12% since February this year and 157% growth on yearly basis. Page views have also increased 255% and data traffic is up 319% since March 2008.
Opera Mini achieved most stunning increase in popularity in Chile and Nigeria where the users increased with 3,200% and 1,500% respectively on yearly basis. Page views in Chile alone grew with the staggering 26,000% since March 2008, a number that surely makes the local network carriers as happy as puppies.
