Nokia showcases Symbian^3 in Barcelona
The leading cell phone manufacturer, Nokia, may not be exhibiting at the MWC itself, but as we told you it is here in Barcelona to disclose its latest achievements. Some information (along with a video!) has been posted at Nokia Conversations regarding the latest iteration of the Symbian OS, Symbian^3 (remember they decided to skip S^2).
As said by the company, the release will feature a lot of enhancements that should include “more advanced usability, faster networking and graphics acceleration in 2D and 3D for games and apps”. Although the Symbian Foundation has informed the platform will be code complete by the end of next month, we won’t get to see the first devices using it until Q3… as sad as it is. However, in addition to the above-mentioned improvements, S^3 will also bring support for HDMI, which will allow users to watch 1080p HD videos on a TV connected with their phone, as well as support for 4G networks.
Also, the user interface will be enhanced thanks to a new graphics architecture. We can already see that in the video, as the interface scrolls smoothly, features nice animated transitions and is a pleasure to look at as a whole. Watch the embedded video below to see it for yourselves! What do you think of it? Will Nokia make a splash with its revamped platform?
