Nokia N97 supports N-Gage now
A number of different updates, fixing certain issues affecting Nokia´s flagship phone, the N97 have been recently released. The latest adds support for Nokia N-Gage and you only need to start the phone Software Update function and download the app itself to get N-Gage installed. Unfortunately, not all games will run on the N97 plus the limited number of titles that are supported indeed cannot be run in full screen mode. The underlying reason is that they have been developed for QVGA resolution screens (320x240 pixels), which is still dominant on N-Gage devices.
We do hope Nokia doesn´t abandon their game platform (although they have already shut down several N-Gage development divisions) and that applications running at native resolution of 360x640 pixels will come out really soon. Cell phone games are element of the device functionality that seem to have lagged behind alongside of other handset features and can be therefore substancially improved on, although that would require an increasing amount of work, not to mention that most manufacturers are facing an uphill battle, since the undisputed leader as of now, the iPhone 3GS seems to be miles ahead of the competition.
