Nokia Lumia Icon now supports Softcard
Mobile payment system Softcard is now supported on the Nokia Lumia Icon. That brings to four the number of Windows Phone models that will work with the Softcard application. The remaining three phones are the Nokia Lumia 822, the HTC One (M8) for Windows, and the Nokia Lumia 928. Softcard is owned by Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile, and there are rumors that Google is interested in buying it at a price south of $100 million.
A free Softcard app is available in the Windows Phone Store. If you plan on using the feature with the Lumia Icon, you will need to download and install the app on your phone. The app will allow you to add and store eligible credit cards. Another option is to fund a pre-paid card and use that to make mobile payments. The Softcard app will also bring you great deals from retailers right over your phone. Besides installing the app, you will need to install a special secure SIM card from Verizon.
To make a payment, open the Softcard app and enter your PIN number. Select the card you wish to use, and hold the back of your phone over the "contactless" symbol on the terminal as you checkout. Softcard can be used anywhere contactless payments are accepted, which currently is more than 200,000 locations.
