Nokia Cinemagraph gets updated to version 4.0
Cinemagraphs are pretty awesome, let's just start there. A cinemagraph is essentially a GIF that wants to be more artistic, which is the reason for the different word. GIFs can be a lot of things, but they are rarely subtle, and that's where cinemagraphs step in. Nokia is very proud of the cameras that it puts on its Lumia devices, so it has also made a Cinemagraph app for those handsets, and that app got an update today.
The big addition to the app is the option to now export your cinemagraph as a GIF, which will then be saved into your Saved Pictures album on your device. This should make it quite a bit easier to share your creations, because before you would have to export your cinemagraph to the Nokia Memories website, and then download the GIF from there when you're on a computer. Unfortunately, something was going wrong in our testing, because it would only export as a JPG, which completely kills the point of a cinemagraph. Word has it that the GIFs can be quite large though, upwards of 18-20MB.
The update also adds location data for better integration with Nokia Storyteller, and the usual set of undisclosed performance improvements. If you've got yourself a Lumia device running Windows Phone 8, you can get the update in the Windows Phone Store.
