Nokia 8 running Android O spotted ahead of official announcement

August will be a hectic month for the smartphone business and a fascinating one for tech-savvy. Google's Android O launch is just around the corner, and so are two of the most anticipated smartphones of the year: Nokia 8 and Samsung Galaxy Note 8.

HMD announced a special event for August 16, while Samsung will hold its Unpacked event on August 23. If you plan on going to IFA 2017 trade fair in Berlin in early September, there's a high chance that you'll be able to see the Nokia 8 and Samsung Galaxy Note 8 in the flesh.

From what we've been able to gather up until now, Nokia 8 and Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will be very different devices, spec- and design-wise. When it comes to software, we've expected both flagships to run Android 7.0 Nougat, but Nokia 8 is likely to be powered by a near stock version of the OS.

However, a new report suggests Nokia 8 could be the first non-Google smartphone to come with Android O inside. The smartphone has been recently spotted at Geekbench, and instead of Nougat, the Nokia 8 is now running Android O. Perhaps the last tests before the big reveal?

As unlikely as it might sound, we're kind of sure HMD will provide Android O to its flagship smartphone as quickly as possible. So, even if the listing at Geekebench is not a sure thing, Nokia 8 owners will have their phones updated to Android O soon after the phone's release.
