Nokia teases December 5 event in Dubai; could unveil the Nokia 8.1
After holding multiple hardware events throughout 2018, HMD Global – the company behind Nokia-branded smartphones – has announced one final event which is set to take place on December 5 in Dubai.
HMD Global’s Chief Product Officer, Juho Sarvikas, confirmed the unveiling event via Twitter and also posted a teaser image alongside the hashtag “#ExpectMore.” The company hasn’t yet confirmed what it will announce at the event, but increasing the brightness of the teaser does reveal what appears to be the Nokia 7.1. This would suggest that the smartphone will become available to purchase in the United Arab Emirates shortly after the event.
Now, because the Nokia 7.1 was announced last month and can already be found on Nokia’s website in the region, it seems unlikely HMD Global is holding a release event solely for this phone. Instead, the company will likely announce a new product. And if recent leaks are accurate, it could be the Nokia 8.1.
This smartphone is set to be the international variant of China’s Nokia X7 and is expected to be unveiled by the end of the year. The device comes equipped with a notched display and is powered by the Snapdragon 710, meaning it will be priced just below current flagships.
