Next player in the smartphone market could be Dell
With the blurring of the line between laptops and smartphones, reports are circulating that the next entrant in the world of touchscreens will be Dell. The rumors are that the PC maker is planning to announce such a device as soon as next month's Mobile World Congress event. With smartphone sales expected to rise from 258 million units last year to 725 million this year, there is plenty of room for a new player. Two years ago, Dell hired Ron Garriques as president of their consumer business. Mr. Garriques is known as the executive inside Motorola who was the force behind the extremely successful RAZR cellphone. Speculation is that any Dell phone would feature Windows Mobile because of the tight relationhip between the computer manufacturer and Microsoft. How does a Dell touchscreen smartphone sound to you?
