NVIDIA Shield TV gets major Experience 6.0 update bringing Google Assistant, many improvements

Shortly after Google announced its Assistant will be available on Android TV starting today, NVIDIA confirmed its new SHIELD Experience 6.0 update for the Shield TV will indeed bring Google Assistant among other improvements.

Besides Google Assistant SHIELD Experience 6.0 adds a couple of other important new features like YouTube 360, which makes the Shield TV the first streamer to support this type of video.

Also, through SmartThings Link, Shield TV will allow its users to control hundreds of smart devices around their home with automated routines and voice control.

A new YouTube Kids app is part of the update as well, which enables access to a world of discovery, learning, and fun. The app is free and simple to use since it's been specially designed for kids.

New features in the Amazon Video app have been implemented too, such as a newer playback engine that should deliver improved A/V sync and streams 4K video. Furthermore, the Vudu app now features voice search and an updated UI.

There's also a new option to power on your TV and receiver using both CEC and IR at the same time. Moreover, the update brings the ability to stream DTS-HD Master Audio to older DTS-capable receivers.

Last but not least, the SHIELD remote, SHIELD remote with headphone jack and SHIELD controller have been upgraded to a new firmware.
