Moto Z Play could be updated to Android 7 Nougat starting late January
While the Moto Z and Moto Z Force have been updated to Android 7 Nougat in November, the third member of the Moto Z family - the Moto Z Play - is still running Android 6 Marshmallow. Fortunately, this will change soon.
According to Motorola Germany, the Moto Z Play should be updated to Android Nougat in late January - in about two weeks from now. We don't know if that's also when the handset will get its Nougat update in the US, but we do have a release date from Canadian carrier Kodoo Mobile, which says Nougat is scheduled for roll out on Mach 4 (though this date is "approximate and subject to change"). Anyway, we hope that at least the unlocked Moto Z Play will get Nougat before March.
Currently sold for $399 in the US (if you're buying it unlocked), the Moto Z Play is a mid-range handset with long battery life and support for Moto Mods. You can find out more about the device if you check out our Moto Z Play review.
