Motorola is almost ready to update the Moto G4 and G4 Plus to Android Nougat in the US

Quite a few months after the Motorola Moto G4 and G4 Plus received an Android Nougat update in India, Motorola is now in the process of releasing a similar update to the two handsets in the US.

According to mobile operator Republic Wireless, Motorola today started an Android 7.0 Nougat soak test for the G4 and G4 Plus, so it may begin a nationwide rollout soon. It looks like the update (build number NPJ25.93-13) will include the rather old December 2016 Android security patch, despite the fact that we're now in March 2017.

In case you're wondering, the Moto G4 Play is not mentioned in the details about the incoming Nougat update, so we don't know when (or if) it's going to get it.

Available since last summer, both the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus can currently be bought unlocked in the US, being compatible with most relevant carriers. The two smartphones will soon be overshadowed by the brand new Moto G5 Plus, which should hit shelves in the coming weeks, running Android Nougat out of the box.
