Some Motorola DROID Turbo owners have been asked to participate in a soak test
Some owners of the
Motorola DROID Turbo who also are members of the
Motorola Feedback Network, have received an email trying to recruit them for an upcoming soak test. Those accepting the invitation will be able to install a new software build on their DROID Turbo while Motorola monitors how well the software works on the device prior to its release.
Only members of the Motorola Feedback Network are allowed to participate in a soak test. Those who do agree to take part in the testing must agree not to talk to the media about it.
The Motorola DROID Turbo was launched in late 2014 with Android 4.4.4 on board. It did
receive the update to Android 5.1 in July 2015. Last summer, there was talk that the Turbo would be updated to Android 6.0. With that in mind, we believe that this soak test is being done to see how Android 6.0 runs on the former flagship phone. If everything goes smoothly, it won't be too long before the Verizon exclusive is running the Marshmallow build of Android.
There is one bit of bad news here for DROID Turbo owners. Since the device is not expected to be updated to Android 7.0, this is the end of the line in terms of Android updates for the model.
