Motorola starts testing Moto G5 Android 8.1 Oreo update
Motorola promised to launch Android Oreo updates to a handful of mid-range smartphones, but not many of them received what was promised. We know for sure the Moto G5S Plus received Android 8.0 Oreo and the Moto G5 Plus will get it as well.
We now have evidence that another mid-range smartphone designed by Motorola, the Moto G5 is likely to be updated to Android Oreo very soon. Just like the Moto G5 Plus, the regular model has now received a soak test in Brazil.
The update also comes with release notes, which is why we know it contains the June security patch. Even so, the final version might include a newer security update, so don't lose hope yet. The changelog also mentions some stability improvements like changes that fix bugs and improved the overall stability of the phone.
Naturally, many other enhancements such as new multitasking features, more efficient notification controls and improved data saver, battery features, new power menu UI and Bluetooth improvements, have been added too.

It usually takes about a month for Motorola to test new Android OS updates, so Moto G5 units across the world should start receiving the update starting next month.
