Moto 360 is the best selling Android Wear device thus far, though overall shipments didn't reach 1 million units
According to research firm Canalys, Android Wear devices aren't as popular as some would have expected, with only "over 720,000" units shipped in 2014. Of course, 2014 was the platform's first year of existence, but, with 6 different Android Wear smartwatches already released, the 720k figure seems a bit on the low side.
Canalys has it that the Moto 360 was "the clear leader" when it comes to sales, though it doesn't say how many units Motorola has shipped until now. Another Android Wear smartwatch that was somewhat successful is LG's G Watch R, which preformed "significantly better" than LG's first offering - the G Watch. As for Samsung, Canalys notes that it remains the "leader in the smart band market," however, only one of its wearables (the Gear Live) is based on Android Wear, the rest of them running Tizen.
Sony's SmartWatch 3 and Asus' ZenWatch weren't mentioned by Canalys.
Overall, 4.6 million smart wearable devices were shipped in 2014 - including many Pebble smartwatches (1 million units sold since 2013), and lots of affordable basic bands like the Xiaomi Mi Band (more than 1 million units sold in 3 months). Canalys expects the Apple Watch, which should be released starting April, to "dramatically grow the market for smart bands and wearables overall."
