Meg Whitman confirms HP is working on a smartphone, says it better be done "right than fast"
HP's new CEO Meg Whitman is apparently not willing to go down without a fight in the smartphone arena. Asked in an interview with a business news outlet, she commented that HP "ultimately has to offer a smartphone", and that they are "working on it". She also said "my mantra to the team is better right than faster".
While this is interesting enough, considering that HP just got off that bandwagon recently when it open-sourced Palm's webOS, and discontinued its phone and tablet efforts with it, we are bugged more by what operating system does HP intend to use.
Close ties with Microsoft are a traditional stronghold for HP, but they said no to Windows RT tablets, and will only be making Win 8 slates, for example. HP is pretty far removed from Google and Android, and trying to resurrect webOS might be doomed. A whole lot of questions coming out of this interview, hopefully we will get some answers soon.
