Mediatek planning an octa-core chip for this year
Mediatek is the chip maker behind a flood of quad-core smartphones from China that are both affordable and powerful enough to make the big smartphone makers worried. Its new chip, an octa-core one, has now been revealed to be coming this year and it will probably power smartphones by year-end.

Mediatek has been aggressively renewing its chip portfolio and after its first quad-core chip, the MT6589, the company quickly followed up with more variety adding products like the more powerful MT6589T.

Now, the leaked Mediatek roadmap below unveils the MT6592, the first octa-core chip by Mediatek. Just as its predecessors, the MT6592 will be based on Cortex A7 and run at speeds of up to 2GHz.

Basically, the MT6592 and the MT6588 will be the new high-end offers, the MT6589 becomes the new mid-end and the MT6582 and MT6572 will be the company's low-end chips.

It is not the only new chip in the roadmap, though. The company plans on refreshing its quad-core products and even affordable new dual-core chips are coming soon. Take a look at it all, the hardware that will power the new affordable smartphones, right below.
