MediaTek Helio P15 true octa-core chipset is launched
Reports out of China today, say that MediaTek has released the Helio P15 chipset. An upgrade to the Helio P10, the new chip features a true octa-core CPU running eight Cortex-A53 cores at clock speeds as fast as 2GHz to 2.2GHz. The GPU on board is the Mali-T860 MP2 with speeds of 700MHz to 800MHz. The chip supports LPDDR3-933MHz RAM and LTE Cat.6 (including dual carrier aggregation).
The MediaTek Helio P15 is manufactured by TSMC using the 28nm process. MediaTek says that it provides a 10% jump in performance compared to the Helio P10.
Late last month, MediaTek unveiled the Helio P20 which includes eight Cortex-A53 cores running at a max clock speed of 2.3GHz. That is accompanied by a Mali-T880 MP2 900MHz GPU, and support for dual-channel LPDDR4-1600. This chip is produced using the 16nm process. The buzz around the water color suggests that the Xiaomi Mi 5c will be the first handset to sport the chipset. That phone has not yet been introduced by Xiaomi.
