LinkedIn confirms purchase of Pulse
In the middle of last month, business networking site LinkedIn was rumored to be buying Pulse News for $90 million. On Thursday, both firms confirmed the acquisition, although the price of the acquisition was not announced. Pulse has more than 30 million users and 750 million publishing partners world-wide and LinkedIn sees both companies working together to deliver and produce content for professionals, by professionals.
LinkedIn has 200 million members, 155 million unique monthly visitors and while Pulse's apps will continue to operate, it is not sure that any new features under development or bug fixes will be completed. The plan is for LinkedIn to use content from Pulse for its members and has recently added a customized news feed for its users which Pulse is sure to be a big part of.
Ironically, the acquisition is occurring just as Pulse has seen a resurgence in downloads as Google Reader starts to wind down.
