Leaked Unpacked invite reveals Samsung Galaxy Note 7 launch date
The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, which launched earlier this year at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, have already brought plenty to the smartphone table. But, as ever, Sammy's annual glut of high-end handsets will spawn another chapter with the next Galaxy Note. According to reports, the company will skip the 'Note 6' moniker altogether and jump straight to 'Note 7', which would see the Note draw parity with the aforementioned S series. With an early August announcement also pottering about the rumor mill, it looks like we now have a firm date.
A leaked snap of an invite graphic shared by SamMobile suggests that the Note 7 will be unveiled on August 2nd. From what we've heard so far, there could be two models of the upcoming Note—one with curved-edge display, and one without. This theory makes much sense given the popularity of Samsung's edge smartphones in recent times, if more for their aesthetic appeal than the debatable enhancements to functionality.
According to the latest info, Samsung Galaxy Note 6/7 will pack a mammoth 5.8-inch Super AMOLED display of a 1440 x 2560 resolution. Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 823 and flanked by Adreno 530 graphics, the new Note could boast 6 gigs of RAM under the hood, while the rear-facing 12-megapixel camera may offer an impressive-sounding f/1.7 aperture. Other treats could include an iris scanner, IP68 water resistance, a 4000 mAh battery, and something the S7 duo missed—USB Type-C.
The invitation lines up with the prediction of reliable leakster Evan Blass, who noted on June 2nd that the announcement was "almost exactly two months away." Set to be unveiled in New York, the new info suggests that a live stream will also take place for fans far and wide to enjoy.
We'll keep you updated on any further Galaxy Note 6/7-related reports, so stay tuned!
