Leaked Brazilian iPhone 4 photos surface
Apple’s manufacturing partner, Foxconn, has been working with the Brazilian government to create a production facility in Brazil. Back in June, we reported that they were originally planning to move some iPad production to Brazil by September. That deal has been stalled on more than one occasion over various issues, some of which include increased taxation, an unprepared infrastructure, and a lack of qualified workers.
Last month, a local Brazilian affiliate of Gizmodo claimed to gain entry into a facility and submitted leaked photos of factory documentation. Now, a reader of MacMagazine.br has obtained some pictures of an iPhone 4 with a custom model number.
The handset in the picture contains the words “Indústria Brasileira”, which is Portuguese for Brazilian Industry. It also has an ANATEL stamp emblazoned on the back. ANATEL is Brazil’s telecommunications agency. A picture of the device in operation shows the software identifies the device as model number “MD198BR”. The ‘BR’ potentially indicates that the device is specific to Brazil.

Considering many Apple devices retail for more than double their price because of taxes on imported electronics in the nation, this looks like it could be great news for Brazilian residents looking to purchase Apple products.
