LeTV to release three new Ubuntu smartphones?

Chinese television manufacturer LeTV has decided to add smartphones to its product line. Thanks to Team Ubuntu, we can rattle off some information about these handsets since all three will be Ubuntu powered. LeTV has expressed its goal to produce phones with a nice design, of a moderate size and with world-class Hi-Fi sound.

The LeTV S1 is the entry-level handset featuring a 5.5-inch screen, and the unit will be powered by an octa-core MediaTek MT6595 CPU. The phone is constructed with a metal frame and uses a plastic cover. The LeTV X1 is the middle child, born with a 5.5-inch screen manufactured by Sharp. Resolution on the glass is 1440 x 2560 and under the hood you will find a 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 810 CPU, rapidly becoming the "Breakfast of Champions." A 16MP camera graces the back of the phone while a 4MP snapper adorns the front of the unit. Unlike the entry-level S1, this model has a full metal build. The high-end model is the LeTV MX1 which is equipped with a large 6.3-inch display and is powered by a Snapdragon 810 processor. The 20.7MP camera on back employs a Sony sensor.

The three models will be available in gold, black and white and the handsets are all going to be manufactured by Asus. The LeTV S1 will be priced at the equivalent of $160 USD while the LeTV X1 is expected to be priced at twice that amount ($320 USD). The LeTV MX1 will cost you $481 USD. There is no word when these three models will go on sale. We expect the handsets to be limited to the Chinese market where the use of Ubuntu could differentiate them from the competition.
