Lava Red OnePlus 5T unboxing and first look
The OnePlus 5T is now available in a brand new color: Lava Red. We have just gotten this newest color version and we are eager to unbox it and compare the new color to the current Midnight Black version and the previously available Sandstone White.

You should know that the Lava Red OnePlus 5T is a limited edition version of the phone and it is only available in the higher-end configuration with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, sold for a price of $560 in the United States. Apart from the color, it is the same old OnePlus 5T, running impressively fast and powered by the flagship-grade Snapdragon 835 chip. And yes, at this price, this is one of the best deals out there.

Before we learn more about this phone, though, let's see what is...

Inside the box:

  • OnePlus 5T (8GB RAM, 128GB storage)
  • Clear View silicon case
  • Dash Charge wall charger
  • USB-C to USB-A cable (red)
  • Sim Ejector tool
  • User Manuals & Safety Information

What is Lava Red?

We noticed something interesting about the "Sandstone White" version of the OnePlus 5T (another limited edition, now no longer available for purchase): it features a different material on the back which made the phone less slippery.

Well, the Lava Red OnePlus 5T is just like the Midnight Black edition and not like the white one. This means that it is very, very slippery, so keep that in mind.

Apart from that the red color is a stunning, vivid shade of red. In bright light it appears a bit pinkish, but very slightly so, not as much as to make it feel "toy-like". We'd say that it is a stylish finish that would suit girls and guys.

Performance and Features

The OnePlus 5T in Lava Red is the same device as the regular 5T. The key feature here is the 2:1 AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels (Full HD+) that looks gorgeous. You have on-screen buttons for navigations, but OnePlus is also testing iPhone X-like gestures in a beta software that could soon come to the public.

On the back is the ceramic fingerprint scanner, which is also red. This is one of the fastest fingerprint scanners in the industry, unlocking the phone in under 0.2 seconds.

You have one more option to unlock the phone and this uses your face like on the iPhone X. The feature - called Face Unlock - is not as technically advanced and secure as on the iPhone, but works much faster and we definitely recommend you give it a try.

The OnePlus 5T rocks Android 8.0 Oreo these days with the Oxygen OS interface on top. The custom interface looks almost exactly like stock Android and has a few unobtrusive, nice additions and shortcuts like a Reading mode that turns the screen to look like an Amazon Kindle.

Final Words

The OnePlus 5T Lava Red comes just in time for Valentine's Day and would make a great gift for both girls and guys, but we feel that it is a beautiful color in general that OnePlus could offer year-round and see success with it. The attention to detail, the slim design and the attractive price make it an easy recommendation.
