LG testing Android 8.0 (Oreo) for the LG G6?
A benchmark test run on Geekbench seems to indicate that LG is testing the new Android 8.0 (Oreo) build of the operating system on the LG G6. The unlocked international version of the phone with the model number of LG-H870, was benchmarked with Android 8.0 running the show. The LG G6 launched earlier this year with Android 7.0 Nougat pre-installed. The rest of the benchmark tests merely confirmed specs already known, since the phone was released on March 10th of this year.
It obviously isn't a surprise that the LG G6 will be updated to the new Android build. After all, the phone is still considered LG's 2017 flagship device even though others would give that honor to the just released LG V30. The latter is powered by the Snapdragon 835 chipset, Qualcomm's current top-of-the-line SoC. Thanks to a deal Samsung had with the chip designer to provide the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8+ first dibs on the new chip, LG was forced to power the LG G6 with the previous generation Snapdragon 821 chipset.
Unfortunately, the test doesn't reveal when owners of this model of the LG G6 can expect to receive the update containing Android 8.0. With the testing, however, it does appear that Android 8.0 is getting closer to being pushed out to owners of the unlocked international LG G6.
