LG Uni8 pops up, the company's first Windows Phone 8.1 handset

LG will be significantly diversifying its mobile efforts this year, it seems, as hot on the heels of yesterday's tablet trio news, now comes a leak showing that it is coming back to the Windows Phone game, too.

Microsoft said earlier this year that LG is one of the new manufacturing partners for WP8 devices, but LG execs shot down the rumor that they will be outing a phone with Microsoft's mobile OS in the immediate future.

Well, the Windows Phone plans of LG might have been put in motion now, as the folks from @evleaks posted an image that shows a new Windows Phone 8.1 handset from LG in the making. The tweet says "LG Uni8 (no sushi), 2014," indicating that the phone is prepped to be announced this year.

The only thing we can deduce about the LG Uni8 so far is that it will feature on-screen navigational keys, as well as a virtual shutter button, instead of a physical one on the side. The handset looks like your garden variety rectangular smartphone, though rather slim, and, judging from the Live Tiles column number, the screen size could be at least as large as on the Lumia 630, which also flaunts on-screen buttons.
