LG Q8 gets its second unveiling, this time out of Asia

Monday morning in Seoul (thanks to the time difference, it is still the weekend in the U.S.), LG introduced for the second time the latest handset belonging to its new mid-range Q-series. The LG Q8 was announced last Thursday in Italy. This is the second phone from the series to be announced by LG. You might recall that nearly two weeks ago, the manufacturer introduced the three variants that make up the LG Q6. While the LG Q6 is a smaller, mid-range version of the LG G6 flagship, the LG Q8 is a mid-range version of the LG V20, right down to the secondary display on top of the phone.

Like the LG V20, the focus here is on multimedia. The dual cameras on back include a 16MP (f/1.8) standard shooter, and an 8MP wide-angle camera with an aperture of f/2.4. There is a 5MP wide-angle front-facing camera. Recording using the LG Q8 calls into play two Acoustic Overload Point microphones that keep background noise to a minimum. The phone stores audio files in the same format used by the motion picture industry. And the Hi-Fi Quad DAC on the LG Q8 eliminates half of the white noise that can mar recordings. For those hoping to be the next George Martin (Google him along with The Beatles), Studio Mode gives you the opportunity to take control over the recording process.

The LG Q8 features an IP67 certification rating. This means that the phone can be submerged in 3-feet of water for up to 30-minutes and still live to tell the tale. The device also offers one handed usage. The unit comes with a 5.2-inch display carrying a 1440 x 2560 QHD resolution. Powering the device is the Snapdragon 820 chipset with a quad-core CPU and the Adreno 530 GPU. 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM is inside along with 32GB of native storage. Those seeking additional storage can use the 2TB capacity micro SD slot, and the lone color option is Urban Titan. Keeping the hamster wheel spinning is the 3000mAh battery, which charges quickly using Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3.0. There is a rear-facing figerprint scanner, and Android Nougat is pre-installed. The LG Q8 will launch in Europe this coming week and hit Asian markets some time next month. We hope to find out from LG what its plans are for the LG Q8 in the U.S.
