LG G6 release date tipped to be March 10, beating the Galaxy S8
The Mobile World Expo in Barcelona is the biggest event in the industry, and this year it will commence as soon as February 27. While the CES show has become a bit anticlimactic in terms of phone or tablet announcements, the MWC show sits on the opposite side of the spectrum with the biggest brands in mobile vying for attention. We usually see the Samsung and LG, as well as HTC flagships announced a bit before or during the expo days, and this year won't be an exception, it seems.
While Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy S8 at that time, and LG has confirmed the presence of the G6 there, the release date of the S8 may very well be after the G6 hits the shelves, if the newest report out of Korea is to be believed. Apparently, the LG G6 will be unveiled on February 26th, the Sunday before the MWC officially starts, as has become customary, and its release date will be on March 10, less than two weeks after. That's the release date for Korea, as LG will try and catch the back-to-school shoppers with the semester starting the same month, but we are certain that the global rollout won't be far behind.
Last year, the G5 was released on March 31, while the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge came on March 11th, but this year LG is trying to capitalize on the rumored delayed release schedule for the Galaxy S8, introducing the G6 three weeks before it released the G5 in 2016. If the S8 indeed lands in mid-April, due to extended quality assurance testing after the Note 7 fiasco, that will leave LG a month of head start before its main competitor to woo buyers towards the G6.
