Keep track of your family members with AT&T's FamilyMaps
AT&T has introduced FamilyMaps, which allows you to track the location of any cellphone on your Ma Bell account from a map that appears on your mobile phone or PC. The person who is being tracked receives a text message informing him that he is being watched. Want to make sure your child gets home from school every afternoon? With FamilyMaps you can get an email or text with location information automatically sent daily. The method used to track down a phone depends on the model being followed. AT&T handsets with A-GPS can give a position within just a few yards if the phone can "see" the GPS satellites. Other devices will give locations with accuracy within a few hundred yards based on alternative location technology, based on the GSM cells used. No matter what method is used, when you request the location of a phone, you will receive the best possible fix based on the conditions. Prepaid and GO phones are not supported. The cost of the service is $9.99 a month for two phones and $14.95 a month for five phones. Ma Bell is offering a deal allowing you to get the first 30 days free followed by automatic activation of the service unless you call to cancel. We can see where this could be a useful tool when it comes to safety matters. But when it comes to spying and issues of privacy, no one wants to get stalked by a cellphone.
