Job postings show Apple is serious about VR
Recently Apple received a patent for virtual reality headware that had been filed back in 2008. Apple is apparently serious about building this as a couple of job listings posted by the company show that it is seeking to fill positions that might be related to such a product. Apple is seeking people with a background that will help it create "extremely high fidelity VR environments."
One opening is for a "Sr. Display Systems Engineer." The job posting says that the positions requires the applicant to: "Specify and test novel display systems for virtual environments, Work with vendors to develop custom display solutions, Design and select appropriate hardware and software components to optimize fidelity in a variety of VR environments, Develop software to support displaying rendered image sequences on the display hardware, and Work closely with software, electrical and mechanical engineers during testing and integration."

Apple also had two openings for a VR/AR Programmer, one posted in December and the other posted a few days ago. Those filling the openings could find their software used in Apple products with a built-in VR feature. Apple already has a number of employees well versed in 3D gesture and eye tracking that came over in the 2013 purchase of Israeli based PrimeSense. That is the company that worked on Microsoft's Kinect motion tracking accessory for Xbox.
