Is this the Sony Xperia Z2 for Verizon?
Sony’s new Xperia Z2 flagship smartphone is already available in some parts of the world (including Europe and Asia), but it doesn’t look like it will be released in the US in the near future. Last we heard, the Z2 was expected to be launched Stateside sometime this summer, not via carriers, but only unlocked through Sony Store.
So we’re quite surprised to see that an image showing a Verizon-branded Sony Xperia Z2 appeared today. Said image was spotted at the official Sony Xperia Google+ page for a short while (it’s no longer there at the moment). As you can see below, Verizon’s unmistakable logo is clearly visible at the top of the Z2.
The fine print at the bottom of the image reminds us that the Sony Xperia Z2 is waterproof and dust-resistant, but it doesn’t mention Verizon at all.

Back in March, a rumor had it that Verizon would exclusively offer the Xperia Z2 in the US at some point. While this new image doesn’t confirm anything yet, it can be seen as an indication that the largest US mobile carrier may indeed sell the Z2 this year. Let’s hope it won’t be long until we hear more on the matter.
