78% of first time tablet buyers are choosing the new iPad

dealnews features some interesting statistics based on its latest survey. 78% of first time tablet buyers plan on buyinbg the new Apple iPad. A whopping 72% say it is
the impressive specs that have them convinced to buy the tablet while only 10% say they are choosing the device because they always buy the latest Apple release. The new iPad offers a Retina display, an updated 5MP camera, and a faster Apple A5X processor under the hood.
Of the 22% that will make their first tablet something other than the new iPad, 45% are going with the Apple iPad 2. The majority (60%) is making that purchase due to the cheaper price. 44% of those
tablet virgins looking to make their first tablet purchase are looking at buying an Android tablet, while 9% of them are demanding a Windows flavored model. Amazingly, 0% are planning on buying a BlackBerry tablet.
With
more than 1 million units of the latest iteration of Apple's iPad expected to be sold today, research firm IDC now expects
tablet sales to reach 106.1 million units this year, up from a previous forecast of 87.7 million units.
