The journey that started with a small leak in October reached its end today when the Huawei P9 and Huawei P9 Plus were officially unveiled.  No more rumors, this is the real thing. The Huawei P9, which could end up as the manufacturer's first branded flagship headed for the U.S., features a 5.2-inch LCD display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920. Under the hood is the Kirin 955 SoC, which contains four Cortex-A72 cores and four Cortex-A53 cores. The unit will offer expandable memory.

The dual 12MP camera setup (which features flush mounted cameras) includes one camera that takes color pictures, while the other snaps photographs in monochrome. The latter is used for sensing lighting conditions for more accurate shots, and to shoot photos in black and white. Both use Leica optics. Both rear snappers feature a 1.25-micron pixel size and a wide F/2.2 aperture. The front-facing camera weighs in at 8MP.

The phone comes with 3GB RAM/32GB ROM or 4GB RAM/64GB ROM, and features a fingerprint scanner on the back. A 3000mAh battery keeps the lights on and the device sports a USB Type-C port. Stereo speakers are on board and Android 6.0 is pre-installed with Huawei's EMUI 4.1 on top, The Huawei P9 starts at $680 and will launch in selected countries on April 16th.

The phone will be available in Ceramic White, Haze Gold, Rose Gold, Titanium Silver, Mystic Silver and Prestige Gold. At 6.95mm, the P9 is thinner than both the Apple iPhone 6s (7.1mm) and the Samsung Galaxy S7 (7.9mm). Its 1.7mm side bezels are thinner than those on the iPhone 6s (4.29mm) and the Galaxy S7 (3.07mm).

The Huawei P9 Plus is equipped with a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display with a 1080 x 1920 FHD resolution. The Kirin 955 chipset also drives this model, which will come with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable internal memory. Like the P9, the P9 Plus offers a 12MP camera setup on back with the 8MP selfie shooter. A fingerprint scanner is housed under the rear camera, and a 3400mAh juicer keeps the hamster's wheel spinning. Android 6.0 is pre-installed with Huawei's EMUI 4.1 on top. The Huawei P9 Plus will start at $850.
