Huawei chairman Richard Yu has been scoring a lot of publicity recently for his company. Recently he took out the 6.1 inch Huawei Ascend Mate at a Huawei Store in China and immediately drew a crowd. On Weibo, Yu mentioned that Huawei was going to bring two new devices to next month's MWC in Barcelona. According to the executive, one model is expected to be the Huawei Ascend P2 that will be thinner than 6.45mm and will have a metallic body. The other model will be the Windows Phone 8 flavored Huawei Ascend W2.
"The CES show, we released most of three global smartphone products, are: maximum screen Mate, the most powerful D2 and the best value the WP8 mobile phone W1 2 month Barcelona MWC Mobile World Congress will also release two most of the world’s smartphone products. Nobody can remember, can only remember the first one, we want the consumer to see, most of the world first from Huawei! Keep making progress, beyond!"-Richard Yu, CEO, Huawei
The first images of this device leaked out in November and the Huawei Ascend W2 is expected to roll with a 4.5 inch HD screen and a dual-core processor under the hood. 1GB of RAM is on board and there is 16GB of native memory. On the back is an 8MP shooter and the device keeps the lights on thanks to a rather hefty 2800mAh battery. All this will be shoehorned into a case just 7.7mm thin. For Windows Phone 8, these specs are are high-end and the Huawei Ascend W2 should compete with other top-shelf models like the Nokia Lumia 920. With pricing indicated at 3200 Yuan ($515 USD), the Chinese OEM would seem to have a few steps on its Finnish rival.
Perhaps of more interest to Windows Phone fans is the talk of a 6.1 inch model from Huawei that could be introduced at MWC 2013, but would be released well after the W2 hits the market. It seems as though 2013 in China is the "Year of the Huawei phone".
