Huawei Ascend Mate 2 gets its Android 5.1 Lollipop update
Huawei today announced that an official Android Lollipop update is now available to owners of the Ascend Mate 2, an extra-large handset that was released in 2014. The availability of the update doesn't surprise us, since testers were invited to download a beta release of it earlier this month.
Right now, the update (Android 5.1 with Huawei's EMUI 3.1 software) isn't being pushed over the air, but anyone can download it from Huawei's official website. You should backup your data before installing Android Lollipop on your Ascend Mate 2. You can find instructions on how to do that, as well as on how to actually install the update, at the first source link below. Interestingly, the Ascend Mate 2 is one of the few devices out there that's being updated to Lollipop from Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, skipping the Android 4.4 KitKat update.
The Ascend Mate 2 is available to buy in may markets around the world, including the US, where it's sold by Huawei for $299.99 (unlocked). Sporting a 6.1-inch display with 720 x 1280 pixels, the Ascend Mate 2 is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor, and features LTE, a 5 MP front-facing camera, a 13 MP rear camera, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of expandable storage space, and a 3900 mAh battery.
