HTC prepping a new Windows Phone flagship for Verizon

If anyone had any doubts about what HTC may be working on outside of the Android sphere of activity, it looks like we will have something to look forward to on the Windows Phone front as well.  The ever-reliable @evleaks has let it be known that HTC will have a new Windows Phone 8.1 flagship to be available on Big Red’s network at a yet-to-be-determined time. Listed as “W8#WL”, might this be a flagship of HTC One (M8) lineage?

Spec-wise, nothing has been leaked yet, but because it is a Windows Phone, we know it will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Because this is purported to be a class leader, we can surmise that the CPU will be a quad-core unit, thus we will go with a Snapdragon 801 or maybe even an 805.

The rest of the user experience is predictable because it is Windows Phone. What intrigues us the most is how premium the form factor will be for this device. Given the bar set with the M8, we do not mind thinking about a similarly built aluminum unibody design. Dual-front-facing speakers? Why not?

We also do not mind thinking about what software and hardware tweaks might be made on the camera side of things. Will HTC double-down on the dual-camera arrangement currently used on the M8? Will we see a 4MP “UltraPixel” camera, or will this sensor break new ground on the UltraPixel front?

Some of all this may be wishful thinking, but it is good to aim high.  HTC has not put forth a banner effort on the Windows Phone front in a while, with its most recent effort, the HTC 8XT being a decidedly middle-of-the-road offering. As soon as we learn more of this HTC W8#WL Windows Phone 8.1 device, we will be sure to pass it along.
