HTC may release its own smartwatch after all
Last year, we heard all sorts of rumors and whispers about HTC and its purported smartwatch. First, there was the speculation that HTC would announce three different wearables at MWC 2014, which didn't happen. Then, there were whispers that the device will be round, like the Moto 360, while later, we got the first "leaked" renders, showing it to be a strict square. New rumors pointed that the smartwatch would be unveiled in September, and there was even a promo video by HTC, which many believed to show an "accidental" shot of an HTC smartwatch prototype (HTC denied), but ultimately – there was no wearable announced, and soon after, leakster @evleaks claimed that HTC scrapped the plan for a smartwatch due to strong competition in the face of LG, Samsung, and Motorola.
So, we've already seen the first tease HTC posted this year – just last week, the company released an MWC teaser poster with the words "Utopia in progress" on it and not much else to suggest what the company may have in store for this year's mega exhibition.
Well, according to Bloomberg, a source, aparrently knowledgeable on the matter, has said that HTC will be announcing not only a new flagship smartphone, but its first smartwatch as well. It will, reportedly, be linked to Under Armour Inc's fitness services – HTC did announce a partnership with the sports-oriented company just this month, and hinted that fitness wearables will be coming. Whether Bloomberg's leakster is talking about a tracking band, or an actual smartwatch, remains unclear as of now.
