HTC Imagio found running Android?
Were you one of the many who decided to check out the Windows Mobile 6.5 powered HTC Imagio for Verizon when it first came out and marveled when the Android based HTC DROID Eris came into light? And were you stuck with the Imagio because you were out of the return policy? Well there’s some good news for HTC Imagio owners who feel strongly about the Android platform, but can’t seem to find a way to replace it without purchasing an HTC DROID Eris. One PPCGeeks forum user, Drellisdee, has carefully transformed his HTC Imagio into an Android trotting handset. Drellisdee was able to boot up Android 2.01 on an HTC Imagio using the HaRET Linux bootloader – it’s worth noting that it will run, expect that it’s plagued with hardware integration and far from perfect. There’s still some much needed work to fine tune Android on the handset with numerous items that are still not functioning correctly – Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Hardware key mapping, CDMA radio, and GPS. If you follow the steps on the site, you can show-off Android on your HTC Imagio – but don’t expect it to do too much for right now.
