HTC & China Telecom release T9199 dual-mode smartphone
HTC and China Telecom have announced the release of the HTC T9199 (Oboe), a dual-mode Windows Mobile smartphone. With Windows Phone 7 available, it's surprising that Windows Mobile is still getting any action, but the T9199 is still an impressive device.
The T9199 runs Windows Mobile 6.5, features a 4.3-inch WVGA screen, and is powered by a 1GHz Snapdragon processor. The real selling point, however, is that it runs on either CDMA or GSM modes. This will enable it to fully utilize the 3G services of China Telecom, while still being free to run a backup or promotion-motivated SIM card.
HTC has been selling their devices in China through Dopod International, which HTC partially owns. They have only recently begun to brand their devices in China under the HTC name. They apparently intend to reorganize the Dopod International brand, or sell it off to new investors.
