Google upset with Samsung for favoring its Tizen powered watches?
You knew that it would eventually come to this. Google's Larry Page is supposedly upset with Samsung for putting more time and effort into the latter's Tizen powered smartwatches, than the Samsung Gear Live timepiece. That wearable is driven by Google's Android Wear platform. Page and Samsung Vice Chairman Jay Y. Lee apparently had the kind of meeting where you would want to be a fly on the wall. The room was said to be thick with tension between the two executives.
Last year, there was talk that Samsung would release a series of Tizen powered smartphones as a way to show Google that it was Samsung behind the success that Android has enjoyed over the last few years. In that scenario, Samsung was hoping that by duplicating the success of the Android driven Galaxy line, it could eventually focus entirely on Tizen handsets and reduce its reliance on Google.
Google wants Samsung to stop producing apps with the look of Android, and it wants Samsung to put as much time into its Android Wear timepiece as it does with the watches on the Tizen platform. Keep in mind that Samsung has already sent out an update that changed the OS on its original Galaxy Gear smartwatch from Android to Tizen.
If indeed Google is getting angry, thinking that Samsung is doing more for its Tizen powered smartwatches, it might only serve to prove that Google needs Samsung more than Samsung needs Android.
