Google Play has hit 48 billion app installs, developer revenue gaining steam
Google I/O has begun and in addition to the incredibly impressive Android activation numbers that were announced at the start, Google has some good news about Google Play as well. According to Google VP Hugo Barra, Google Play has crossed the milestone of 48 billion app installs, and the revenue generated for developers is growing at an incredible rate.
Barra says that app installs are moving along at quite a clip with 2.5 billion app installs in the last month alone. On the revenue side, Google has paid out more money to developers in the past 4 months than was paid to developers in all of last year. And, "revenue per users is 2.5 times what it was a year ago, globally."
That's a pretty incredible jump, and it certainly makes Android sound much more appealing to developers. Maybe now we'll see big name apps launch on Android at the same time as iOS, and no more delays.
